Austin Butler has already chosen who will accompany him to the Oscar party

Apparently Kaia Gerber won’t be the boyfriend’s escort Austin Butler at the upcoming 2023 Academy Awards, where he is nominated for Best Actor for his performance in “Elvis”, Elvis Presley’s biographical film. The actor was asked who will be with him on that big day and his answer surprised him.

The 31-year-old actor attended the Oscar nominees luncheon on Monday, Feb. 13, with his sister Ashley as an escort, and told “Access Hollywood” he wanted to take his dad with him to the 2023 SAG Awards and her movement coach Polly Bennett for the BAFTA.

While he said it was “so hard to make a choice” about his guest, Austin mentioned that a special friend would likely be joining him at the Oscars: his agent James, who Austin described as “one of my best friends in the world.”

“I’ve known him since I was 17 and he’s also my agent… We were friends first and I wouldn’t have my career without him. The amount of times he helped me decide whether or not I should do something or that he pressured me to do it… He believed in me at times when maybe I didn’t believe in myself, “he justified.

He went on to say, “I think I’m going to bring James because he’s been on this ride with me for a long time,” he stated.

But Kaia Gerber should not miss the Oscars on March 12th, because she is also on the special guest list.

Austin Butler came to be criticized during his participation in an award, for supposedly imitating the voice of Elvis Presley in his Best Actor acceptance speech. But now he says it’s involuntary and reveals he’s having a hard time getting rid of the voice he adapted to play the king of rock on the big screen.

“From singing so much, I probably destroyed my voice a little bit,” he explained. “You know, my vocal cords are much rougher now.”, he justifies, assuring that, contrary to criticism, he is not permanently ‘imitating’ Elvis.

Austin Butler remembered a ‘premonition’ that the ex-girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens had about playing Elvis Presley on film someday. The 31-year-old actor started dating the “High School Musical” star in 2011, but they broke up in 2020 and now Austin has admitted in an interview with the “Los Angeles Times” newspaper that the ex was the one who inspired him to take on the lead role of late king of rock, in the award-winning biopic “Elvis”.

He said that Vanessa had a kind of premonition when she heard him sing an Elvis song in the car:

“I was with my partner at the time. [Vanessa], that’s right. We were together for so long and she had this kind of moment of insight, so I really owe her a lot for believing in me.”

Previously Butler had not mentioned her when he told the full story:

“I was going to look at the Christmas lights with a friend. And there was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio and I was singing along and my friend looked at me and said, ‘You have to play Elvis’… I said, ‘Oh, that’s a long shot.’ So my agent called and said, ‘So, Baz Luhrmann is making an Elvis movie…’. I freaked out at the time. It made me say, ‘Okay. It’s Everest. I don’t know if I’m good enough, but I have to give it my all,’” he commented.

Austin stated that he started to ‘train’ to do his role well:

“I hired a movement coach, a singing coach, and a dialect coach, and I started working like I had the job. I caught up with Baz after about a month. And we spent five months trying things out. And then finally I had to do a screen test. I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t have the job yet?’” he recalled.

Austin Butler is very happy with his Golden Globe award for Best Actor for the movie “Elvis”. After his statuette acceptance speech, Kaia Gerber’s boyfriend was heavily criticized for ‘imitating’ Elvis’ voice. But in an interview with the “Entertainment Tonight” program, he clarified that he “does not think” he sounds like Elvis Presley, although critics and some media claim that he managed to master the voice of the late king of rock.

The 31-year-old actor has stated that he doesn’t think about it, and isn’t trying to look like anyone else.

“I don’t even think about it. I don’t think I sound like him yet, but I guess I didn’t realize it because I hear it a lot. I guess I tend to compare it to someone living in another country for a long time, and I had three years where that was my sole focus in life, so I’m sure there are just pieces of my DNA that will always be linked that way. ”, he commented.

Speaking after winning a Golden Globe for his performance, Butler said he is “grateful” to Elvis Presley’s family for letting him take on this important role in their biopic.

He added: “To be in that room full of all these people that I look up to so much, and that means a lot to me. And then, in front of the Presleys, who have now welcomed me into their family in such a beautiful way… I feel infinitely grateful to them for giving me this space to somehow try to capture the essence of this man who means so much to me. them and that they love so much.”
